Kim Barker was the South Asia bureau chief for the Chicago Tribune from 2004 to 2009, based in New Delhi and Islamabad. Her book about those years, The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan, is a dark comedic take on her experiences. An expert from the frontlines, filmmaker Gini Reticker’s documentary, Women, War & Peace, focuses on the perils and roles of women in war zones. Critically-acclaimed author Joydeep Roy-Bhattacharya’s novel, The Watch, features a contemporary Antigone in Afghanistan in conversation about the strategic role of women in conflict and peacebuilding throughout the world. Their conversation will be moderated by award-winning journalist Lee Woodruff, author of the bestselling book In an Instant, which documents her family’s road to recovery after the roadside bombing of her husband while reporting from Iraq.
