In The People Speak, some of today’s leading performers and artists give voice to figures neglected by history. In March 1987, the political movement to confront the AIDS crisis found militant expression with the formation of ACT UP. A year later, the activist Vito Russo, a founding member, gave this speech at a rally in New York City.
